One Thing About Me You Should Know

If you should know anything about me, it’s that I do my own thing. I learn what I need to learn, I apply whatever applies to me, and then I go rogue. Why? Why NOT?! As my sister, Duchess, says, “Life’s too short to be anything but happy. Do what you need to do to make that happen for yourself.” Her words never really sunk in until I started actually applying that thought to my life. (Which is funny, because I see her NOT applying her own advice sometimes. Sorry, Duchess. ILY)

Granted, I’ve pretty much always done what I wanted, however, I’d let the opinions of others get to me. I never understood why I cared so much. Then, in the summer of 2015, I let someone with absolutely zero significance in my life get to me and inside my head. I had invited a guest tenant who wasn’t paying rent. That’s where Duchess came in. She told me every day, “DO NOT LET THAT PERSON GET TO YOU!” And every day for months, I still let this person get to me. I let them get away with intimidation, slander & libel, malice, and displaying an overall nasty attitude toward me. (This is a post in and of itself. Stay Tuned!)

It wasn’t until the next spring that I finally learned to LET IT GO. As in, truly letting it go and going about my business as though this person and their family didn’t exist. I finally learned it’s not my business what others think of me or what I do.

OhMyLanta… I can’t believe I’m doing this.

And this brings me to today…

I’ve decided it’s time to bleach out my hair and color it some crazy colors. I’ll probably chicken out just before & end up with just fun colored highlights, but I’m still doing something different to my hair. And I don’t care what others think about it. I’m just going to do it. 2018 is being ushered in with newness inside and out.

I’m going to choose to ignore those who may look down upon me, give me nasty looks, or otherwise develop a strange hatred toward me because my hair is different than theirs. I’m pretty sure we were all taught to accept people for who they are, no matter what color(s) their skin, eyes, hair, or lips may be.

As you can see, I am using different brands. No, this isn’t an affiliate post. I’m not that cool yet. (Maybe after I use the products & review them?) I just wanted to use something other than the ‘Splat’ brand’s bleach, but the ‘Colorista’ colors were too tame for what I was going for.

Pictures to come… as soon as I garner the courage to follow through.

How’s that for doing my own thing?

Is there something you do that makes you feel rebellious? I’d love to hear about it; please share in the comments below!
